Aubrie Knight Wancata is a member Hahn Loeser’s Litigation Practice Area, where her experience includes breach of contract claims, business torts and fraud claims, and state and federal statutory violations. Aubrie focuses on class action defense in all phases of litigation from discovery to trial strategy. Aubrie’s experience includes being part of a team that successfully defeated a $250 million punitive damage claim during a consumer class action jury trial. Aubrie is skilled handling complex legal issues and has experience in appellate advocacy.
With extensive experience in the insurance industry, Aubrie has represented companies in ERISA health benefits litigation and disability-benefits litigation. Her additional insurance experience includes bad faith, subrogation/indemnification, E&O policies, managed care agreements and reinsurance.
Aubrie spent a decade with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, where her work spanned Title IX, Title VI, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. As a senior attorney, Aubrie investigated complex discrimination matters in public school districts as well as post-secondary institutions, negotiated agreements regarding compliance, mediated complaints, reviewed policies and procedures, and trained district and post-secondary staff on compliance with federal anti-discrimination laws. As a member of the Department’s Title IX team, Aubrie researched emerging Title IX issues and contributed to the 2024 rewrite of the Title IX regulations. Aubrie also has experience with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and accessibility-related issues.
